Statin Therapy Recommended for:
ALL Diabetics OVER AGE 40

  • Use High-Intensity Statin in HIGH RISK Diabetics with Multiple ASCVD Risk Factors or AGED 50–70 YEARS
  • Moderate-Intensity Statin Recommended for Diabetics OVER AGE 75

Pharmacologic Approaches to Glycemic Treatment: Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes-2020

High-intensity and moderate-intensity statin therapy for once-daily dosing

  • High-intensity statin therapy (lowers LDL cholesterol by ≥ 50%)

    • Atorvastatin 40–80 mg

    • Rosuvastatin 20–40 mg

  • Moderate-intensity statin therapy (lowers LDL cholesterol by 30–49%)

    • Atorvastatin 10–20 mg

    • Rosuvastatin 5–10 mg

    • Simvastatin 20–40 mg

    • Pravastatin 40–80 mg

    • Lovastatin 40 mg
