Medicare Update: New Medicare Cards & Scam Warning

New Medicare Cards are Coming to our Area

As you may be aware, Medicare has begun mailing new Medicare cards to patients in our area. It may take up to 30 days for patients to receive their cards.

Please warn patients to be cautious of scams and advise them to contact Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 if they are contacted to provide personal information. Scam artists may try to obtain personal information from patients (like their current Medicare Number) by contacting them about their new card.

Also, please inform patients that Medicare will never contact a patient uninvited and ask for personal or private information in order to receive a new Medicare number and card.

Advise patients that if someone asks them for their information, for money, or threatens to cancel their health benefits if they do not share personal information, they should hang up and contact Medicare immediately at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

Information for providers and office managers regarding the new Medicare cards can be found by visiting CMS.gov and/or https://www.medicare.gov/NewCard/
